Dr. Raymond Reiter has held board certification from the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation for more than three decades. Employing the newest treatments, Dr. Raymond Reiter treats some severe athletic injuries with platelet-rich plasma therapy injections.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a blood product derived by centrifuging the patient’s blood cells. The extracted, concentrated plasma is a source of protein that stimulates cell growth and repair.

When athletes sustain injuries to their tendons and muscles, the immune response naturally releases these growth factors. However, the healing process can be hindered by scar tissue, which blocks small blood vessels, thereby preventing the growth factors from reaching the damaged cells.

With a PRP therapeutic injection, doctors can administer growth factors directly into the injury site. Since PRP comes from the patient’s cells, there is no risk of rejection. PRP is often used to hasten the healing process or manage chronic injuries, such as tendonitis.
